Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 August 2026

Nearabout ("we", "us", "our") is operated by MK Labs. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use Nearabout, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it, in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

Nearabout is a UK local noticeboard connecting shoppers with farm gate produce, makers and independent services. We are the data controller for the personal data described below. You can contact us at privacy@nearabout.co.uk.

What we collect

  • Account data: email address and password (stored securely, never in plain text) when you sign up, or your Google account identifier if you sign in with Google.
  • Business listing data: business name, description, category, location, opening hours, photos, and any offers you post, if you create a business profile.
  • Location data: your approximate location, if you allow it, used only to sort and filter nearby results.
  • Usage data: basic technical data such as pages viewed and device/browser type, used to keep the site working and improve it.
  • Reports and support: whatever you send us when you submit a report or contact us, so we can act on it.

How we use your data

We process your data to:

  • Create and manage your account (necessary to provide the service)
  • Show and manage business listings and offers
  • Respond to support requests and moderation reports
  • Keep the platform secure and prevent misuse
  • Understand how Nearabout is used so we can improve it

Who we share it with

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run Nearabout, including:

  • Supabase / Lovable Cloud — hosting, database and authentication
  • An email provider — to send account and transactional emails (e.g. confirmation emails)

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share business or shopper data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

How long we keep it

We keep account and listing data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to keep records for legal reasons — for example, resolving a dispute or complying with the law.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Ask us to delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Ask for your data in a portable format
  • Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@nearabout.co.uk.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember basic preferences. We don't currently use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

Children

Nearabout is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Nearabout grows. We'll update the date at the top of this page when we do, and let existing users know of any significant change.
